This course builds the knowledge, teaching skills and movement understanding you need to deliver safe, effective and inspiring Pilates Matwork sessions.
You'll learn how to:
Apply the foundational principles of Pilates — including breathing, centring, control, concentration, precision and flow — within every session you teach
Understand anatomy and physiology relevant to Pilates instruction, so your teaching is always grounded in how the body actually works
Plan and deliver Pilates Matwork sessions for a range of clients — adapting exercises, progressions and modifications to individual needs
Screen clients effectively and identify contra-indications that affect exercise selection and session design
Teach with clarity and confidence — developing the cueing, positioning and observational skills that define an excellent instructor
Apply health, safety and professional practice standards throughout every session you deliver
Assessment is designed to confirm you can deliver safe, professional and client-appropriate Pilates sessions — not just recall theory:
Theory Assessments — Multiple Choice Exams testing your understanding of Pilates principles, anatomy and physiology, and session planning
Programme Design — Demonstrating your ability to plan appropriate, progressive Pilates sessions for a range of client profiles
Practical Teaching Assessment — Observed Pilates session delivery, assessed by your tutor against professional teaching standards
You'll receive ongoing feedback from your tutor(s) at every stage — in your online study, during practical days and throughout your assessments.

This course is ideal if you are:
Are passionate about Pilates and want to turn that passion into a career
Are a fitness professional — Personal Trainer, Gym Instructor or Group Fitness Instructor — looking to add Pilates to your service offering
Want a qualification that's recognised across gyms, studios, leisure facilities and private practice
Are looking for flexible study that fits around work, family and existing commitments
Are considering Reformer Pilates as your next step and need the Matwork foundation first
You don't need to be an advanced Pilates practitioner to enrol. A personal interest in Pilates and a commitment to learning how to teach it well is everything you need to get started.

Teach From Day One
By the time you complete your practical days and assessments, you'll have the skills, the confidence and the credential to begin teaching Pilates sessions immediately.
Everything you need to know before you book your place.
There are no formal experience requirements to enrol on the Level 3. However, we do recommend that you are actively attending Pilates classes before you begin — even as a participant. Having a feel for how sessions flow, how exercises are cued and how your own body responds to the work makes a real difference to how quickly you develop as a teacher. It doesn't need to be advanced practice — just regular, consistent attendance. If you're not already going to classes, now is a great time to start.
Yes. The Level 3 Diploma in Delivering Pilates Sessions is endorsed by CIMSPA — the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, the professional body for the UK fitness industry. CIMSPA endorsement confirms this qualification meets the professional standards required by employers and facilities across the UK. You'll receive 10 CIMSPA points upon completion of this course.
Most learners complete the Level 3 in approximately 8-12 weeks — combining self-paced online theory with between 5 and 6 face-to-face practical training days depending on your location. From 2027, all locations will run a standardised 6-day practical programme. Your online study can be started as soon as you enrol.
The blended course combines online theory with face-to-face practical training days in your chosen location, where you practise teaching under the guidance of an experienced tutor. The online-only version is delivered entirely on demand and is designed for learners who want maximum flexibility and prefer to self-direct their practical development. Both routes lead to the same Level 3 Diploma. The online version is coming later in 2026 — register your interest to be notified when it launches.
Practical training days are currently held in Glasgow and London, with locations coming soon in Manchester, Newcastle and the Midlands. Register your interest for your preferred location if it isn't yet available and we'll let you know as soon as dates are confirmed.
